When we realize our insignificance in this world,
it some how relieves the pressures from society to succeed -

Glen Phillips
Winter Pays For Summer
Lost Highways

I don’t know if you can remember about ten years ago when the band Toad the Wet Sprocket was on the airwaves, infecting us with their happy boy band sounds of the mid 90’s. Well fast forward to present day music and the lead singer Glen Phillips has come out with his third solo album, Winter Pays for Summer.

I’m not really sure what to think of this album. You know how you can listen to something and know right away if your going to like it or hate it, well I’ve listened to this thing a few times now and I don’t dislike it, it just doesn’t strike me as one of those ‘need to have in your collection’ CD’s.

I can’t really even figure out which genre to label it as? It’s a cross between Country, Easy Listening and has a mix of Pop blended in to create sort of that Jason Mraz mixed with John Mayer feel to it. I bet if you bought this new release for your girl friend or wife, she would listen to it a few times and think you suddenly have this soft, cuddly side to you that you want to reveal to her through some sappy music.

I know a buddy of mine who told me he had to take his girl friend to a John Mayer concert. Well none of us would have let him live this down since he let it slip out at one of our weekly dart, beer guzzling extravaganzas. But the following week when we started to rag on him about it, he filled us in on the fact the concert turned out to be a Hot Chick Fest and he was one of the 20 guys who got dragged to the thing.

I think this is the way one of these Glen Phillips concerts would be.  When Phillips hits the concert scene, I’m buying tickets for my Cindy and planning on doing some serious Hot Chick watching.
